Dialogue with Picasso and Hockney about ‘ TIME ‘
The craft of Cubism has puzzled generations of viewers since it first appeared in Paris, France. The novelty of this ‘new’ concept impacted artist’s then and up to the present time. It is a form of art that observes and reproduces a multiplicity of views of a subject matter which are then combined in one whole as seen in Picasso’s paintings and drawings of the early 1900’s. Soon after Paper Collage was employed which produced a tactile appearance to support what was being done on canvas. Hockney, a trained artist / photographer in the 1960’s, made full use of collage in a Cubist manner very much in keeping with the spirit of the art form. Let’s enter ‘their eyes meeting the world’. Together we will learn about cubism and its place in history. Afterwards we will paint and assemble an object to begin to aid us in the understanding of its concept.
